Emergency Response:
Members are not on duty except during their assigned Thursday training night. Members are summoned to emergencies via pager and siren alerting systems. The Siren also alerts the hamlet that an emergency exists in Thornwood or a neighboring community. It also alerts the traveling public to be aware of emergency vehicles and first responders traveling to the fire station and emergency location.
Firefighters are on-call 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year. Firefighters are not required to respond when away on vacation or other times when they cannot leave their family, work or other obligations. Thats why we are always trying to maintain a large pool of emergency first responders (firefighters). This ensures adequate coverage for any emergency. We also utilize mutual aid when larger situations call for more man-power or equipment or specialized services.
