The “T”

1917 Ford Model T
The Thornwood Fire Department proudly maintains a 1917 Ford Model T, which once served as a primary fire engine for the department. Today, it remains one of the oldest operating pieces of firefighting equipment in New York State.
The Model T was shipped unassembled by railroad and assembled by members of the fire company. It has earned numerous awards for Best Appearing Motorized Antique Apparatus and has won many trophies at antique competitions throughout New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut.
The Model T is accompanied by an 1886 Gould hand pump trailer, known as “The Strokers.” This was the Thornwood Fire Company’s original hand-drawn piece of equipment and has also earned multiple awards in antique apparatus competitions.
The “T” remains a centerpiece of the department’s history and is proudly featured on apparatus decals, banners, and firefighter patches.
