Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) Outbreak

The Thornwood Fire Department Chiefs and Fire Commissioners are closely monitoring any and all information coming out for this Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. As we are all experiencing something of this magnitude for the first time, we are taking proper precautions to minimize risk of spreading the virus as well as continue to offer fire protection to our residents and neighboring communities. We continue to work with the Westchester County Department of Emergency Services, Westchester County Department of Health, Westchester County Emergency Operations Center and the Center for Disease and Control to be as up to date on this outbreak as we possibly can.
The Thornwood Fire Department is asking the public, If you are confirmed to have the virus or believe you were exposed and are under "self-quarantine" or "mandated quarantine" please contact us and let us know your address so we can respond with the proper equipment to assist you in an emergency. You can do this confidentially by emailing "Chiefs@thornwoodfire.com" or by placing a sign/note on your front door to alert First Responders to take infection-prevention precautions before entering. You can also call the Thornwood Fire Company and leave a message at (914)-769-0345. We will not release your personal information to anyone, this information is to protect our crews so we will be able to continue to meet the emergency needs of the community.

On 10/25/2017 the Thornwood Fire Department responded to the entrance of Rose Hill Shopping Center for a Cement Truck on fire. Engine 89 and Engine 88 arrived quickly and extinguished the fire. The truck was no longer operational and Mark's Towing responded for the tow.

On Tuesday May 30, 2017 The Thornwood Fire District took delivery of our new 2016 Sutphen Engine which will be replacing our 1991 Pierce Engine. Driver training on the new engine has commenced and will continue throughout the week to hopefully have the new engine in service by June 1st.

On Thursday, April 6th 2017 the Thornwood Fire Company held our annual meeting. This is a meeting held every April where we discuss our budget for the year and vote on new officers for the company. This year we had two line officers resign and added two new officers to the line up.

On March 25, 2017 the Thornwood Fire Company along with AAA Emergency Supply participated in a Train-The-Trainer course of our personalized Rescue Escape System. The course consists of several hours of instruction followed by a series of practicals.

In February 2017, the Thornwood Fire Company said goodbye to our 1991 Pierce Lance Pumper, also known as, Engine 89. Engine 89 served the Thornwood Fire Company very well over the years as a first due attack engine, a mutual-aid engine and a second due and third due engine.
