On July 5th, 2019 the Thornwood Fire Company responded to 62 Whittier Drive for a dog that was stuck inside of a storm-drain pipe. At about 12:30 AM, the fire department was notified of the incident. Two of our smaller firefighters attempted to get close to the dog by climbing into the pipe, but were unable to get to the dog as he was about 15 feet into the pipe. The Westchester County Technical Rescue team was alerted and responded to the scene as well. After about three-and-a-half hours, the dog was successfully rescued from the pipe by using a device to coax the dog up to where we could lift him out. "Rex" was extricated from the pipe safely and appeared to be in good health. It is unclear how the dog ended up in the drain-pipe but it appears he was scared off by fireworks and was attempting to hide.
