On Saturday May 4, 2019 the Thornwood Fire Department held its Annual Inspection. Each year, the Fire Company cleans, inspects, and maintains every aspect of the Fire Department. For two-full weeks, members of the Company spend hours cleaning every hose, tool, ladder and truck of the Fire Company including the Firehouse. Combined, members dedicate hundreds of hours to show our Company pride. Ultimately, come the first Saturday of May, neighboring departments and elected officials gather to inspect our apparatus and gear. We then hold a dinner reception afterward where members are recognized for their hard work, years of service and dedication to the department and community. Several years ago, we also instituted a "Captain's award". Each member is assigned to a squad, commanded by a Lieutenant, and assigned a piece of apparatus (Fire Truck) in which they are to compete against other squads for the best maintained fire apparatus. The apparatus are then judged by "Parade Judges" from outside agencies to conduct an unbiased verdict for the best maintained apparatus. The following members were recognized for their dedication and hard work for 2018.
