On January 26, 2017 at about 6AM the Thornwood Fire Department responded to Valhalla Fire District on a working fire. Valhalla Fire Department received a call for an outside odor of smoke. Upon arrival of the Mount Pleasant Police and Valhalla Fire Chief, a heavy smoke condition was found in the street in front of 8 Legion Drive Ext. Upon further investigation, a fire was discovered at that location. Crews from Valhalla FD found heavy fire on the first floor of the two story commercial building. The fire quickly extended to the second floor. An interior attack was delayed because of an interior floor collapse. It took firefighters a little more than an hour to contain the fire, which was contained to the right side of the building. Along with Valhalla FD, Thornwood Engine 88, Battalion 11, North White Plains FD, Elmsford FD, Hawthorne FD, Valhalla VAC responded on the first alarm. A second Alarm was transmitted which brought Pleasantville FD, West Harrison FD and Sleepy Hollow FD to the scene. The Chappaqua FD and Tarrytown FD were called to Standby in Thornwood Headquarters. A special call for the Westchester County HazMat Team was transmitted due to the fire being in a cleaning facility.
